The Best AFCO Reunion Ever

Well, well, what can you say when you walk in to Ben Edmiston’s house and Jason Dolan shoves a zucchini with a rope attached in to your hands and tells you to tie it around your waist? Oh yeah, it was time for the tie-the-zucchini-around-your-waste-run-around-the-porch-and-dunk-it-in-a-glass-of-water game. Megan Frelich, you were doomed to fail.

Apparently I was the only one to bring his/her song binder. Yes, we did it, we sang the King’s Song. Gorgeous. That with the homemade Snicker’s ice cream, funny hats, and good brothers and sisters we had a blast.

In the end it was Mace, Bekah, Ben, Rachel, and myself reminiscing about Mace falling asleep in Seremban while Bekah poured her soul out to us, Rachel hated “Kha Prawinya Nam,” Mace getting sick while on the bus ride to Singapore and listening to Sam tell stories the whole way about his times on the ranch, Katherine’s meticulously detailed journal entries, terrifying monkeys, shoes being washed in Bangkok, “Um Mace, some one is not singing the not-right note,” I going to the shower in my underwear, Bangkok cold showers, busted toes and teeth and pussey ears, durian and fish sauce in the luggage, how we decided to go on the trip, and many more moments. I’m left with only a few words:

Give it to me daddy. Shweet!

A conversa é boa.

It is always good to talk to friends. I have my computer back and I was sitting in the library today, I opened up Skype and on a whim looked for Marúsia on the directory. Sure enough she was there under ‘Itu.’ I had the pleasure of talking to Ma, Guto, Jorge, and Shirley.

I let Shirley down a bit - my Portugues has not improved much at all since our lesson. She said that, if I come while I’m in Chile, all we will speak is Portugues.

Friends are good.

“That’s TX weather for you.”

So yesterday it was a comfortable 78°F most of the day. We had a small rain shower over night and at the moment it’s 47°F. At least it’s not like the Northeast where it dumped this past week. I hope there is enough show in CO for some great skiing and maybe the cherry blossoms will come early in DC.

Who could resist?

Really? The 2006 Winter Olympics on NBC and Project Runway on Bravo. Rivoting.

If you are in Shanghai over the New Year celebration, do not accept a tangerine from a gang member. This would bind one to a one year contract for “protection.” It also comes with a small fee. This is what I learned at the Chinese New Year party on Friday.

Today is the day. Food Services at Texas A&M are calling for entries from student organisations to submit mural designs to be painted on the walls of a popular dining area, the Underground. I was given the opportunity to design the Environmental Issues Committee’s entry.

One of my fellow EiC directors emailed me his thoughts and this is what I replied:

“I think it is agreat representation of EiC as a forward thinking/moving organisation. You could make the case that Texas A&M, as well, desires to be moving forward. That the current changes being made to diversify the campus are not well loved by all, but in the end the university and those reflecting on their time at Texas A&M will value the changes occuring.”
